Devlog 7: I made a whole other game to test my game

I didn't expect to be writing an update so soon after my last devlog.

2025 saw much of my time devoted to plotting Scarlet Harvest and creating its arsenal (and lots of optimisation). Whilst this narrow focus was useful, there were lots of smaller ideas and techniques I was curious to test out.

As luck would have it, my friends were running a Winter-themed gamejam from October to December. So I made the ill-advised decision to enter despite having no story, no assets, and starting a month late.

What followed was an intense 25 day development period that resulted in an entirely  separate Easy FPS Editor game called Mildred's Christmas Eve. It's  a wholesome Christmas game designed to test some techniques I'm thinking of using on Scarlet Harvest.  And even though the game is buggy, unfinished, and quite short, I still had a blast making it and learned so much! I've built it its own Itch page if you want to take a look.

And if you'd like to learn more about how I made it, here's a shiny new devlog video I pulled together over the weekend that plots my journey.

With Christmas upon us, I'm going to take this opportunity to have a short break from Scarlet Harvest, and game dev as a whole. I want some time to digest the lessons learned from making my cozy Christmas game, and factor them into my plans for Scarlet Harvest.

All that remains is for me to wish you a Merry Christmas. I look forward to sharing more progress with you - eventually - in 2026.
